Our Christmas

There is a distinctive nip in the air, it's that time of the year, my personal favourite. Peace on earth and Goodwill towards all men. Hearts aglow with the warm yuletide spirit. Shiny wrapped up presents under a well decorated Christmas Tree and Christmas Carols sung by The Rat Pack, Elvis Presley and Nat King Cole.

I follow a set Christmas pattern, well it makes me happy. On Christmas Eve I watched A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens starring Sir Patrick Stewart with my little one Vrinda (My elder one Rai is away in Punjab visiting relatives on her mother's side). This was followed by another Christmas favourite 'Christmas with the Kranks' a movie starring Tim Allen adapted from a novel 'Skipping Christmas' by John Grisham. In the evening we went out to Red Hot Chilli Pepper for a quiet dinner with the family. We skipped the Christmas Eve party at the Club this year. After a sumptuous meal and some spiritual sustenance, we headed home and wrapped the presents while The Rat Pack sang lovely Christmas carols. At night we watched Christmas Mass from the St. Paul's Cathedral which is always very touching. Then I sent out the last of my Christmas emails and tuned in to Old Time Radio - BBC After Dinner Christmas Ghost stories. Of course there was a lot of food from Nahoum's - Calcutta's famous Jewish bakery - Cheese Puffs, Pince Pies, Jam Macaroons, Marzipan Walnuts, Plum Pudding, Plum Cake, Rich Fruit Cake and delicious Chicken patties.

On Christmas Day Vrinda was ever so excited to unwrap her presents from Santa. The look on her face was priceless! To add to the Joy my parents returned after a 11 day vacation so the home seems full again. We're  still missing my elder daughter Rai, but she's having the time of her life. We went to Christmas Lunch with friends to Calcutta Club. After a couple of cocktails we dug into the delicious spread which consisted of Roast Turkey, Fried fish with tartar sauce, Sliced Ham with pineapples and Pork Chops ending with Plum Pudding with Brandy sauce. After lunch we came home and enjoyed a siesta. Watched some Christmas specials on TV and caught up with my parents.

So all in all it was a very enjoyable Christmas at the Singh Roy household and we wish you a very Blessed and Merry Christmas - from our family to yours.
